CHARACTER SUMMARIES

LAURA (Krystal DeCristo):

An activist and New York Times reporter.  She was previously a member of the LDS faith, but left the church in her twenties.  She is angry at religious institutions for taking advantage of their members as well as shaming them for who they are.  She believes that she must expose their corruption at any cost.  She is fierce and loyal and kind but extremely headstrong.  She is openly gay in New York but must hide it as she goes undercover at Church Headquarters to write her exposé.  An Emma Stone type.

LOGAN (David Nolan):

CEO of Church Investments.  He hides behind jokes and doesn’t let down his guard for many people.  He has an obsessive personality and finds it difficult to connect with people on more than a superficial level.  He’s on a never ending quest to “feel” something, and hurts a lot of people in the process.  He is singularly focused on his wealth but tragically overspends.  His quest for approval from others, coupled by the death of his estranged father, is what lead him to be the flippant money obsessed jerk he’s become.

SETH (Carson Peasley):

Chief Operating Officer.  Logan’s friend and rival since High School.  He is sly, confident, and ambitious.  He will do anything to prove that he is elite.  He seems to be compensating for something and obsessively talks about his interest in things like BYU football, to an annoying degree.  Hits on everyone in the room.

MCKENZIE (Savannah Cordova):

Senior Compensation Analyst.  McKenzie is an idealist who believes that positive change can happen anywhere, if you push hard enough.  She is a good judge of character and fights for her principles.  She is very strong in her religion, and though inwardly conflicted, she believes the best way to effectuate change is from within the church.  She is bullied by the other LDS women because she is different and attracts affections quickly.  Her parents and the others around her set the bar very high, and she feels like she can never meet it.  She hides numerous doubts about her faith and represses her attraction to women in order to fit within the blueprint.

NICK (Alx Stewart-Johnson):

A recent convert to the church who works in Charity Relations with Shantahl.  He is a powerful speaker and believer that God guides him daily.  He grew up in a rough neighborhood in Los Angeles but moved to Utah after his conversion and subsequent mission for the church.  He’s a black man as well as an unconventional member of the church as he is uncompromising in his belief that even church authority must be checked against corruption.  However, he feels that God’s hand is guiding the LDS church more than any other church he knows.  Calm, cool, honest, caring, trusting, and fierce.  A survivor.

SHANTAHL (Brandy Pehrson):

Head of Charity Relations.  The adopted daughter of wealthy high up LDS church members.  Being a Black Woman raised in a predominantly White state was one of the many reasons she’s never felt completely like she fits in with Utah and Church culture. She overcompensates to fit in.  She is in an unhappy marriage with a man that expects too much of her and demands what she can’t give.

DIANNA (Brandy Pehrson):

A Homeless Nurse who was previously a successful woman and is down on her luck due to losing her job during the Pandemic.  She has three kids that rely on her and they have been sleeping in her car for months.  She divorced her husband and left the church after receiving what amounts to a slap in the face in aid from the church during her job loss and divorce.

HILDA (Stacee Perry):

She is a sexy, desperate housewife who is overly touchy and flirty.  She is probably a closet sex addict, but has a lot of status in the church as she is a wealthy tithe payer and very active in the church as a leader in a high calling.  She is passive aggressive and on the hunt for her next ex-husband.

DEAN (Randy Wellbaum):

A homeless veteran who jovially hides his pain from the world.  He uses his music and love for the arts to spread joy as he asks for spare change in front of LDS Church HQ.  He has a host of mental issues due to his PTSD which has made it hard for him to hold a job or pay rent.

AMY (Madeleine Curletto):

Laura’s well-educated boss at the New York Times.  A Sarah Jessica Parker type.  She is a mentor for Laura and an extremely accomplished writer.  She tells it like it is.  She is uncompromising in what she is willing to do for the greater good or for the integrity of a story.  She and Laura have a complex past but a strong friendship despite their work dynamic.

MONICA (Hailey Gentz):

Head of Public Relations. She is a bit of a nerd and is interested in board games and 80’s music.  She is obsessively cleaning up after Logan when he says or does something off brand.  She loves being a career woman and feels that working for the church is the only way her friends and family will accept that part of her.

DEVIN(Gabriel Armstrong):

Head CPA.  Devin is a bit of a follower and hasn’t grown into his own.  He is secretly a dungeon master for a local D&D group.  He also has a crush on Monica.

BRAD (Kafea Sungalu):

Director of Vault Management.  He is angry over opportunities he’s missed and lashes out at others as a result.  His obsession with money is really based on his need to spoil his Nieces and Nephews and be the rich Uncle.

MILLIE (Jasmine Peterson):

 Head Architect.  A fiercely loyal and brutally honest person with a bit of an anger issue.  She is mysterious and obsessed with playing by the rules.  A closet lesbian.

 BAILEY(Hope Oliver):

 Senior Compensation Analyst.  She is an airheaded, strong willed, enthusiast, who views the expectations set for her as if they are the pages of a fairytale book with a happily ever after ending.  Being willfully ignorant is her only means of hanging onto this dream.

JESSE (Sammy Pond):

An activist and founder of a charity that feeds the homeless.  They live among the homeless, by choice, in order to keep a heartbeat on a community that was once their only family.  They are highly intelligent and personable.  They have compassion for everyone they meet, including those within the organizations they oppose.  They are resourceful and a little extreme but also fair in judgment.

BODIE (Jason Lorton):

Laura’s older brother.  He’s a steadfast member of the church but is open minded and caring.  Laura sees him as more of a father than their father was to them.  He feels extremely driven to protect Laura.

SIMON (TBD):

Nick’s Nephew who is gender nuanced and is very loved by Nick.

ZOEY (Leilani Moss):

MAYA (Hope Oliver):

Amy’s Journalist / Office Assistants.
